Dog friendly caravan parks on the Isle of Wight

As any dog lover knows, your four-legged friend is an integral part of your family which means that when you travel away on holiday you’ll want your pet to come away too.

Luckily, on the Isle of Wight you’ll find a number of great caravan parks which not only offer dog-friendly caravan accommodation but also have a great range of activities which welcome dogs nearby too. To get you started on your hunt for an ideal base for all the family to enjoy, here are our recommendations of the best dog-friendly caravan parks on the Isle of Wight:

St Helens Holiday Park

St Helens is a wonderful caravan park located on the eastern side of the island, between Bembridge and Ryde. Here you will find two types of caravan accommodation which welcome pets. Firstly, you can consider the Ventnor, which is part of the bronze grade accommodation and offers 2 or 3 bedrooms sleeping up to 8 guests. The open plan living style within a caravan is ideal for bringing dogs to, giving them the room to stroll around while inside. Alternatively, St Helens Holiday Park also offers The Bembridge caravan, which is ideal for couples travelling with a dog. This is a smaller caravan offering just one bedroom and sleeping two guests.

Outside of your caravan the holiday park is pet-friendly so you are welcome to walk your dog anywhere within the grounds. Heading further afield, the village of St Helens has a huge village green – in fact, it’s believed to be one of the largest in England so perfect for an early morning wake up walk or a late-night stroll. 

It’s a short walk down to the beach and in this area, you’ll find that the majority of the coast remains welcoming to dogs throughout the year with no summer restrictions on dogs heading down onto the sand.

Heading out for the day can involve your dog too with loads of attractions welcoming well-behaved dogs. One highlight for any trip to the Isle of Wight is a visit to The Shanklin Chine, where dogs on leads are welcome. It’s the oldest tourist attraction on the island, opening in 1817. With it’s array of luscious plants and tranquil waterfalls, this is a must-see for all.

Rookley Country Park

Set in the heart of the island in amongst rural countryside, Rookley Country Park is a fantastic place to take your dog and base yourself for your holiday filled with visits around the Isle of Wight. Here you’ll find our Yar range of pet-friendly caravans, which have 2 or 3 bedrooms sleeping between 6 – 8 guests. It’s a large open plan caravan so ideal for those travelling with pets with plenty of space for a dog bed to be put down in the lounge area.

The holiday park itself has a fishing pond ideal for a spot of time with your rod and is surrounded by quiet country lanes and miles of footpaths making it safe for a stroll with your dog at any time of the day.

The nearest beaches are a short drive away. You can easily access some of the main beaches like Shanklin where you’ll find a range of facilities such as cafes and restaurants however be aware that the beach is only open to dogs between October – April. If you are visiting in the height of the summer there are plenty of smaller beaches a little way down the coast which are ideal for your dog to run around with no restrictions.

If you’re heading for a day out then the central location of Rookley Country Park makes the whole of the island easily accessible. Visits to top attractions such as the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, Osborne House and The Needles Landmark Attraction is all possible as every one of them welcomes dogs.
