Rookley Country Park is in the central part of the Isle of Wight, nestled in amongst parkland and beautiful scenery. There are lots of activities onsite, but if you want to venture out further afield, there are various options available. Whether you’re visiting the island for a family holiday or romantic getaway, you’ll find plenty of things to do.

Godshill

This picturesque village looks like a postcard, with its thatched cottages and medieval church. It is famous for having a model village of itself, and within that model is a model of the model...then a third model inside that! Godshill also has a range of unique shops offering local produce and crafts, so it's a great place to visit for the day - even just for a wander around. At the very least, you must stop for tea and cake; the traditional tearooms here are simply delightful.

Carisbrooke

Situated on the outskirts of Newport, this village is best known for its castle. At Carisbrooke Castle, you’ll find donkeys, a beautiful Edwardian garden and the famous museum, which features Charles I memorabilia as well as exhibitions that change regularly.

Children have the opportunity to dress up as civil war troopers or Norman soldiers, and once they’ve finished running around the grounds, you can all relax with some refreshments in the onsite tearoom – perfect.

Newport

The capital of the Isle of Wight is a busy, bustling town and one of the liveliest places on the island to visit. Newport is a great shopping destination, boasting a wide selection of independent stores and well-known high street chains. The annual Isle of Wight Music Festival is held in the town every year in June, which is well worth booking tickets for if you're into music.

If you’re looking for attractions the whole family will love, try Monkey Haven, Robin Hill Country Park and the Newport Roman Villa. There is so much to do here that it’s impossible to get bored.

Robin Hill

This adventure park has loads of fun-filled activities on offer for the whole family. There are four amazing rides to try, several adventure playgrounds to explore and falconry displays to watch. There's something here for people of all ages – you may even get to see some red squirrels if you’re lucky!

Ventnor

Situated at the bottom of a steep hill, Ventnor has a reputation for getting great weather. If you want to spend the day on the beach, this is the place to go. After a long day of swimming and sunbathing, we recommend going to the Ventnor Haven Fishery to try some of the best local crab and lobster.

Later in the evening, you could head to the local multi-screen cinema or see a show at either the Medina or Apollo theatres.

If you are planning on staying at Rookley Country Park, you can be sure that you and your family will never have a dull moment. With adventure parks, pretty seafronts and cute little shops nearby, there's something for everyone in the surrounding areas. We are sure you’ll all have a brilliant time on the Isle of Wight.
