Pet friendly holidays on the Isle of Wight

It’s not a holiday unless every member of your family is able to be there – which is why we understand that it’s so important to be able to take your dog away with you. Sadly, though so many holiday accommodations don’t allow our four-legged friends to join us.

Not so on the Isle of Wight where you will find an abundance of dog-friendly holiday cottages ideal for all the family to enjoy. To help you find a holiday cottage which suits both humans and dogs alike.

Dog friendly cottages at Rookley Park

Rookley Park is ideal for exploring the beauty of the Isle of Wight. Centrally located but in the rural countryside it’s a great place to take your dog as there are lots of quiet country lanes and footpaths for either an early morning stroll or a late evening walk as the sun dips down. The nearest beach is Shanklin which is just 13 minutes in the car and where dogs are allowed on the beach between October and April. If you’re coming during the summer months then head a little way down the coast from Shanklin to Luccombe beach which welcomes dogs every day of the year.

Days out don’t have to be restricted either if you are travelling with a dog as many of the top attractions welcome well-behaved pets. Nearby to Wight Cottage you’ll find the Isle of Wight Steam Railway where dogs can travel for just £3 a ticket or, if you’re visiting with children, then check out Robin Hill Country Park in nearby Newport. The adventure park has extensive gardens and welcomes in dogs on a lead – they even provide you with a free poop scoop!

Dog friendly cottages at Colwell Bay

Colwell Bay offers not just one, but two varying types of accommodation both ideal for dogs who have come on holiday with their owners! Alum Cottage has two bedrooms and can accommodate up to four guests with parking and an outdoor patio area. Norton Cottage offers everything that Alum does but with one added bonus – a private outdoor hot tub! OK, so your dog can’t join you in the tub but it’s a great way of relaxing after a long walk.

And walking is plentiful near to Colwell Bay Holiday Park which is located on the west coast of the Isle of Wight surrounded by dog-friendly beaches, many of which allow dogs onto the sand every day of the year. We’d also recommend walking the route between Yarmouth and Freshwater which takes you along the former railway track. You’ll find a dog-friendly pub at either end.

There’s plenty of attractions to visit nearby which also allow your pet to come along too. One of the Isle of Wight’s most popular attractions The Needles Landmark Attraction is just 20 minutes away and allows dogs on leads onto the site, although not into the buildings.

With so much on offer, the Isle of Wight is ideal for a fun-filled holiday for all the family.
