Activity Holidays on the Isle of Wight

If you are looking to get active on your holiday, the Isle of Wight is the right place to be. There are so many different activities on the island, that you'll be running around whatever your age. If it's a family holiday with the children, or even just a solo trip, you can be sure to find plenty of sports, tours and other fun things to do.

Walking tours

The Isle of Wight is famed for its walking tours and there are several that take place over the course of the year. Whether you want to follow a route that is going to push you to your limits, or you'd prefer something that allows you to take in the lovely views of the coastline, you'll find an ideal walk for you.

You can join in on an arranged tour with other walkers if you want, but you can also follow the signs and go at your own pace with friends and family if you prefer. The Isle of Wight has an annual walking festival that you can sign up for as well. This festival has loads of different walks that you can choose from and meet some other walkers along the way as well.

On your bike

If you would prefer to see the island by bike, then fear not; the cycling routes are just about as good as the walking routes so you'll have no problems. Cyclists head to the Isle of Wight every year for bike rides along the coastal paths, countryside and for tours through the different towns as well. There are various routes you can choose from, depending on how far you want to cycle, but also on your experience and strength levels. You can have a leisurely bike ride along one of the beach promenades or you can go flat out across the Tennyson Down; the choice is yours.

Sailing

Cowes Week is one of the biggest events in the calendar for the Isle of Wight, and it brings thousands of yachting fans to the island every year. Whether you're a beginner or a professional, you'll find facilities for sailing at various points around the island.

There are sailing schools that offer lessons for adults and children. You can even go dinghy racing with the family, so if you're just going for a bit of fun, check out this option for a great day out on the sea. You can also opt for a boat trip with a crew. These boats will take you on a tour of the island and surrounding areas so you get to enjoy the sea, without having to worry about mastering the art of sailing for yourself.

Water Sports

It goes without saying that the Isle of Wight is a haven for water sports fans. As well as the sailing that we've already mentioned, there's also the opportunity to go kayaking, paddle-boarding, jet skiing, windsurfing and many more. You can hire equipment out and get some lessons if you're new to water sports as well. If you're more experienced, you might already have your own equipment, in which case bring it with you and make the most of the water around the island.
